I was returning home from picking up our 02 and was playing a disc in the in dash CD player. It quit all of a sudden and the message said CD TOO HOT. Anyone else run into this problem? If so what is causing too much heat?
I've not got the message, but the cd's ae HOT when pulled out !
Is it something to do with the location of the unit and the defroster vents close by???
On long trips we'll rent books on tape and notice that especially in the winter...
thanks for the reminder - will add that to my service list for next week...
Maybe it doesn't like your music (i.e. no rap!) :-)
Actually, I have the same problem. The CD in the dash
gets hot and then stops playing. When I try to eject it, it
displays "ERR" and won't eject. I have to turn off the truck and
wait for it to cool down before I can get the CD out.
I don't know what causes this but I've stopped using the dash CD
in favor of the 6 CD changer which does not have this problem.
my truck would stop a cd after 2 hours and show the ERR message. When I would take it out it would be hot as hell. I got a new CD player(warr.) and it never did it again. CD's are warm but never get burning hot like with the old player.
I took our X in today. They are going to replace the CD player. The dealer said it has been a common problem with these players getting too hot. Might be worth checking yours out.

I had this same problem in my 00 expedition. I had a friend with a crew f250 with the same prob. I took mine to the dealer and they more or less told me to quit whinning. I called FMC and they said the change had something to do with having the amp inside the same case as the main radio and cd without enough cooling. They basically poopooed me too! My last inquiry to FMC was in '03. I sold the expedition and oddly enough, my cd's aren't hot now. LOL
Is there a replacement for the in dash system? I have XM radio that I would much rather have built into the head unit instead of looking down to figure out what station I have it on. FYI XM is the coolest road trip item you can buy. . . just watch out for the comedy channel if the kids are awake they drop F bombs way too many times.
If you travel a bit and dont like having 100 CD's in your truck it is the greatest thing ever. I think Truckers are the biggest fans since they even have their own station.
My in dash CD's come out scorching, but the changer CD's stay nice and cool.
I figure it's because the CD drive unit is located on TOP of all the other electrical components of the audio system - probably including the in unit amplifier which is creating the heat. CD drives really don't create heat.
