Greetings, my '87 Ranger STX screams to about 2,500 - 3,000 rpm when started. It does this when cold and after being totally warmed up. After a few seconds the idle drops to normal. I replaced the IAC, TPS, and looked for a vacuum leak. Still the same. Anybody have any ideas?
Engine is a 2.9, manual 5-speed, 193,000 miles on it.

For what you spent on the TPS that you did'nt need you could have bought a code scanner. Hook it up & 2 minutes later it will spit out any codes. VERY SIMPLE. Or do as Ken sez to pull the codes.
Its best to reset the computer by disconnecting the neg cable for 15 minutes, youo don't reprogram. It will relearn but it takes time and you may think you still have a problem.
