I was hoping someone could help me. I want to replace my old dual convertor cheapest way possible. I can not see paying $300 for one when this is my old work truck. I have a 1989 f-150 straight 6.

If you must pass emissions in your state there really isn't a quick, cheap way of fixing this other than using a new catalytic converter.
I know guys who have brazed in junkyard cats, but thats entirely a crap shoot in my opinion. Thats one thing I would buy new.
Make sure when you replace it, that your o2 sensor is good and you're head gaskets aren't leaking, as both will cause cat damage. THe latter because rad fluid and oil are not cat friendly, and the former, because a bad 02 sensor might cause the vehicle to run rich. The cat can only eat so much unburned fuel before it dies.
If you can get some custom exhaust work done, an aftermarket 3" converter at Summit Racing is not terribly expensive, and would probably be the most cost effective replacement. Definitely less than 300.
this truck has dual convertors... a double wide pipe goes into the first and then comes out single and into another. We want to only put one cat ( to save money) so what I was asking was more of how to if anyone has done this, we are not that smart when it comes to working on the truck. If it was a single pipe going in to begin with it would be much easier for us to figure out on our own.
Gut the first cat (the one with the 2 pipes going in - take all the insides out of it) then replace the second one with a single high flow aftermarket cat.
JUST USE ONE HIGH FLOW WITH A "Y",YOU DONT HAVE TO HAVE TWO CATS,ASK YOUR LOCAL MUFFLER SHOP,AND GO WITH MAGNA FLOW THEIR THE BEST FLOWING CAT ON THE MARKET TRIED AND TRUE COMPARED TO CATCO.
