whinning noise

whinning noise
while I'm driving I dont hear it. but when I stop at a stop light or go to park I do hear it. Could it be my altanator or what. it's getting worse and louder. I put a new belt on it less than 6 mnths ago. thaks.

i would say it is probably your fuel pump. when we put a new pump in ours we didnt put the insulation around it and now you can hear it whining all the time. if you havent changed the pump it could have just rotted out. also i would say there could be something wrong with the pump making the noise but i wouldnt bet on it. good luck

The FORD plastic pumps are inherently noisy due to how designed. Take a few quarts of ATF (Doesn't make a difference whether Dexron or Type F) and flush out the whole system. Waste about 5 qts. Then fill up with new ATF or Power steering fluid. It's still gonna be somewhat noisy but it will last longer.
If it gets to the point you can't stand the noise, then replace it with another pump. But I think flushing it will help.
