I just purchased a '92 Ford Explorer XLT about a month ago. Of course the freggin' thing ran great up until last week. First of all while I was driving home, I noticed the temperature gage was kind of acting funny. The needle was rocking back and forth slowly from Low to High, but the needle never went passed the NORMAL word. That stopped. Then I started to have trouble while starting it. I takes two turns to start it up. The first one it sounds like maybe I ran out of gas or something, then the second time sounds like a brand new car. I took it to a friend of mine who does emission tests, hoping that it would trigger a sensor, of some sort, going out. But everything passed with flying colors! So now I'm stuck. Does anyone have any suggestions??? Any advice will help! Thanks!!
I think I may know how to check the fuel pressure. From what I was told: Turn the truck on, let it idle, remove the fuse for the fuel, then let it just run until it cuts off. Then what????
Please let me know, again any advice will be good.
If you dont have a 15 buck Haynes manual for your Explorer, this would be the perfect time to buy one at a car parts store.. It will tell you how to hook up a fuel pressure gauge. Hopefully yours has a Schraeder valve on the fuel rail (looks like a tire valve) If thats the case, checking fuel pressure is very simple.
