Back to the thumping noise, i cant seem to find out what it is, today it happend and i shut the car off and it was still thumping, i was thinking its expaning and contracting metal but it does not sound like that.....Hot water going into a cold radiator i dont know am stumpted any one help?

You don't say exactly where the thumping is or what it really sounds like. But I'm guessing it's gurgling, rumbling sound that could be thumping?

What you want to do is look for any indication of leakage from the radiator, hoses and cap. Then take all the air out of the cooling system.

Diconnect the heater hoses from the core side, keep them even with the top of the radiator. I've put them in Gatoraide bottle. Fill the radiator. If the hoses are low enough, coolant will spew out of them into the bottle. Just carefully raise them until the flow stops and connect them back up.

You also want to disconnect the upper hose from the radiator side and fill it (that's where a good catch comes in handy for when you put it back on). It is here that most air gets trapped in the coolant system. This is because the upper hose is blocked from water flow when the t-stat is closed. So, even when you completely fill the rad, there's still a good volume of air (about a 16oz bottle's worth) trapped in the hose. Any air in that hose will get into the system once the t-stat opens and allows complete circuit flow.

Finally, fill the reservoir to the correct level. This needs to stay filled enough at all times because if it runs dry and the coolant cools, it will draw air from the empty reservoir.

Of course this whole process isn't fool proof but you should get most of the air out of the system. The rest will eventually burp out through coolant. cycling in and out of the reservoir. Hope this helps. Keep us updated.
