Speedometer not working.

Speedometer not working.
My friend drives a 98 F-150 XL and she just called and said her speedometer stopped working.
What could be the problem?
Is it electric or cable?
What should I check?

Any luck with it yet?
It is an electronic speedo...no cable. The speedo gets it signal from the VSS sensor in the back of the transmisson where a cable would go if it had one.
Any warning lights on or anything? Check the fuses?
