Is there anyway to reprogram the automatic climate control on a '03 F150 Lariat S-Crew? When set on automatic mode to about +24C on a -25C day, once the engine is warm, the unit switches the fan speed to 100% to try and warm up the cabin. It's really annoying, and not as effective as say, 60 or 75% of max fan speed. Does anybody know if the climate control system is programmable by the dealer to change it's heating characteristics?
Besides also not blowing air that isn't all that hot when it's REALLY cold outside, it makes a heck of a racket and is freaking windy. It's generally not pleasant. I always end up readjusting the fan speeds and temperatures manually all the way in on my commute to work. I'd like it to work better in automatic mode if possible.
I checked my service DVD and it didn't show anything. It did show what makes the system do what it does and why. I didn't see an option for reprogramming. It did mention the manual overide though.
I assume your manual doesn't say anything about changing it's settings?
You're bang on. Not programmable. the 'Automatic' setting on the HVAC controls is about as subtle as driving a finishing nail in with a 5 lb sledge hammer.
Yes, the speed can be overridden - it always has to be, unless you really do like your fan blasting away at a huricane gale force type 5 storm. And of course in Canadian winters that's 'really' effective to heat your truck. Brilliant.
I just thought that if they had half a brain they would have at least made the automatic setting somewhat controllable... but it ain't. :P
I had an '03 GMC pickup with auto climate control that was smart enough to not engage the fan until the truck warmed up. You'd think Ford could design a similar control system for their auto climate system, but I guess not. I use the manual override on my wife's '02 S'crew constantly.
The automatic hvac system does wait until the truck is warm to crank up the wind speed, but still 100% fan speed is not effective when it's really cold. It's also loud, windy, and annoying.. .oh well.
