Excuse my ignorance, but as I've never had oil analyzed beforeI have a few questions. If you aren't changing your oil, where do you take take the sample and how much do you need? I'm assuming you send it in a little container of some sort? Is there a lab of choice? It sounds like quite a few have done this and I'd appreciate your input.
Hi Dan ... you could talk to a local CAT dealer. They do oil analysis and they would provide some containers too. You could do a "search" in the computer to find "oil analysis" and that will show you many different places that do analysis. Good luck.
After I get my "analysis" back, is there some thread/link/site that tells me what I have? Or do they send you a thing along with your return stats that says what the numbers mean?
All of the major oil filter manufacturers offer this. The kit is listed in their filter books. I know Raycor, Wix/NAPA, and Baldwin do. The cost of the kit covers everything but the mail charge. Even comes with shipping box.
dsl lvr .... They send back a total report that tells you everything about the inside of the engine (at least a good report will). How much dirt is inside, how much iron is in the sample, how much chrome. you would think they reached up the butt hole of the engine.
