distributor life?

i had my 2.9 rebuilt last year after 260.000 miles and was wondering when i should replace the dist??......they put in the original and said it appeared ok to them.....now i have 273000 on it........seems ok but im wondering how long it should last??

They are just another moving part. Pop the dist. cap off and move the center shaft from side to side. If you are not comfortable with the amount of sideways play in it, change it.

There is not much "wear and tear" on a distributor. If the gear looks good and there is no end play in the shaft, it should be OK. The gear can easily be replaced in needed.
