Also, a Stock Cobra is in the low 13's, high 12's. A Stock LS1 Vette is about equal to that. A LS6 Z06 is in the Low 12's stock. I'd hardly call running dead even with, or a even a few hundredths quicker than, a stock base Vette "smoking." It it's acceleration equal to or comparable to a Vettes? Sure, but hardly capable of smoking one. WXboy's statement that a Cobra would smoke a Vette implied that it would smoke any factory Vette, and that simply isn't the case at all. Saying a Z06 isn't comparable to a Cobra is silly as well. If the highest level Mustang is only comparable to the base Vette, what is that saying?
Sometimes I wonder if some of you guys would buy a stinky pile of dog crap with a Ford emblem on it and still think it was the best thing ever made. After all, it says Ford right?
I'm sure you wouldn't call it "smoking"...unless you were the one in the Mustang...Maybe? Point is...the Cobra will run with a "vette". True...the Z-06 will out run the Cobra...but what about the 2005 Ford GT?
What it is saying that a Ford "Pony" car is knocking at the door of the vette is saying a heck of a lot. Remember...the vette is not a Pony, thus not in the same class. To me...that's an incredible feet! The Mustang already put the Camero to sleep...now it's turning towards the vette. Who knows...maybe someday??? Or better yet...let's just put the Z-06 to sleep now with the Ford GT!

Humm...I think you are way off base EV2DEMON...did you mean to say, "bow-tie" on that crap?...and think it was the best thing ever made? May want to stick with the chevy forum...
Honestly, I'm not a Chevy guy at all. I thought my screen name would have given that away.

I suppose using that logic we can finally admit that the Hemi Ram and Titan both "smoke" the new F-150 then right?
The Mustang already put the Camero to sleep...
And it most certainly wasn't because the Mustang was a better performer...
Thing is, I like any well built, solid performing car, regardless of who makes it. I just don't understand some of the blind brand loyalty many people suffer from. It really doesn't make sense to me that someone would buy a vehicle based on what emblem is on the grille rather than how well the vehicle is built or how it suits their needs.

if you want to go dolllars for power, i can buy a 87-93 5.0 and run 10's for that cost including, the original purchase price of the car... the moral is there is always someone bigger.. and musclemustang and fast fords ran 13.13 in a mach one and a 12.5 in an 03 cobra....

I've seen several 03 Cobras in the mid 12's on different boards. . Most Z06's are mid 12 second cars, too. A few guys on the Z06 boards have gone like 12.2XX-12.4XX completely stock, but you see just as many that have gone 12.7XX or so.

My point exactly EV2DEMON. The Mustang may not have always been a better performer than the camero, but the "LOYALTY" to Ford and the history to Mustang made it a Super Pony Muscle car. If you recall, in the '90's when Ford announced it was canceling the Mustang and replacing it with the Probe...the LOYAL Ford Mustang follower's spoke out and Ford listened. However, the camero with its weak following eventually domed itself.
Loyalty has its place...BLIND loyalty not so much.
This in response to biz4two reply. The Ford GT will never put out the Corvette, due to costs, like who can afford a $150,00 vehicle? I do like what Ford has done with the Mustang, even though I don't like how alot of people are building them, they look more and more like rice burners, with the wings, and body kits. Makes me wish Chevy could do the same and bring back the Camaro. The Camaro is gone because that hot-shot military guy cant go buy one for as cheap as a Mustang.

You're right. We all know that all the people who drive new F-150's are really sandbagging and the F-150 is really faster than both the Titan and Ram. Probably really out accelerates them both when loaded to right? Just don't tell anyone, we'll keep it Fords little secret.
Speed aint what counts in trucks. However, when the Hemi is only getting 8-10mpg and the Titan 9-11 and the F-150 is 14-16, there is a difference......The F-150 will smoke the Ram and the Titan in distance traveled on the same tank of gas.
Here is the way it is, with bone STOCK cars. The Viper and the Ford GT are at the top of the heap. The GT may be a bit faster than the Viper, but it costs almost twice as much, so pay your money and take your choice. The Z06 is faster than a supercharged Mustang Cobra, but it costs about $20K more. A 350HP Vette runs about even with the Mustang Cobra, but costs more, so the Mustang is a great deal. Since someone brought up Camaros (and I have a 2001 Camaro SS), the SS will outrun any Mustang GT or non supercharged Cobra, but is slower than the supercharged Cobra. Makes sense, the LS1 is 5.7 liters, can't expect a non-supercharged 4.6 to keep up in a car that weighs about the same. What killed the Camaro, well, I'll tell you, it's a fast car that handles well, but the ergonomics really suck. It's a lousy daily driver, it's hard to get into, the extreme rake of the windshield causes a ton of glare, it rides rough, and the back seat is a torture chamber. The Mustang is superior in ergonomics, for sure. And, the GT is a performance bargin, less expensive than the Camaro was, and still one fast car. So, I agree that pure speed does not sell cars, it's the entire package, and when looked at that way, the Mustang was a better car than the Camaro, the sales figures confirm that. Same with the trucks, yes the Nissan and Dodge are faster, anyone who argues to the contrary just can't face the facts. But, Ford will sell more F150's in 2004 than Dodge and Nissan truck sales combined. The Ford is a better overall package, with the reputation to back it up. By the way, have you all seen the 2005 Mustang. Wow, what style, and 300HP standard. Gonna get me a convertable to go with that Camaro of mine.
the 2004 gt40 would rape a vette anytime any where biz4two lol and it looks hell of alot nicer than a vett! more of a mucel look to it not the femi look like the vette plus who whats a chebbie anyways?
ok im gonna settle this you give me a zo6 and a "good" driver
i will take my buddies slightly moded(427scj , super charged, custom fiber glass body kit, runs 8.9s in the 1/4, me driving 11s) 93 mustang GT and we will take 'em to the track. its ludicris but id win at the drag race. btw he beat a linginfelter(spelling?) corvett
