Hi guys. Unfortunately, I'm nowhere close to owning a Super Duty right now, but I have a few questions about the 6 speed. Is this an extremely long throw transmission? (compared to the Mazda 5 speed in Ford light duty stuff, for example) How about the left to right spacing of the gears? Is this a tranny that can be shifted reasonably fast when necessary?
I guess I can't think of any more questions at the moment. Thanks for your help.
I find it easier to switch my gears quicker when the engine is running at higher RPM's, but I dont run my super duty like a sports car. I live in Georgia so I kind of take things a little on the slower side. It is a surprisingly easy transmission to get along with. I do say that you have to go six speed, not automatic!!!

This tranny has a closer shift pattern than the previous 5 speed. It will shift reasonably fast but is not a sports car tranny. The throws are shorter as well.
Thanks for the replies. I realize that it isn't a car transmission. It wouldn't have a granny low and reverse if it were. I am just hoping that it has a tighter shift pattern than the Mazda engineering wonder in my current Ford. :-X23

It has a first gear(granny)that you won't slip the clutch on and the next gear may also even have a lower ratio than the Mazda.

It is a bit notchy...just think of it as a gearbox .
yea, this 6 speed has closer shift pattern then the 5 speed super duties. the only grip i have is that i am always hitting my knee when i shift into reverse. but i love it anyways.

I have to agree, shifting the 6 spd is definitely smoother at higher revs. I think it was 4x4x4x4 that indicated that he gets smooth shifts at around 3200. I've been running mine in 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd up to 3000-3200 and it shifts nice. I've found that if I shift at lower revs like around 2000 or so, when I clutch I get a clangy backlash sound until I actually pull the tranny into gear. I don't have any problem or noise shifting from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th at any rpm. Higher the gear the easier it shifts.
