2.8 vs. 2.9
Will the carb, intake etc. from an 84 2.8L bolt on to a 87 2.9L? I have a wrecked 87 Ranger with a EFI 2.9L in it and I was wanting to put the long block into a 84 Bronco II that has a grenaded 2.8L in it.
It looks to be the same design of engine (along with the 3.0 and 4.0) so I am thinking that the bellhousing, exhaust manifolds, intake manifols, and distributors will interchange.
Thanks,
Jimmy
I have heard--not on my mind right now--about making an adapter for the 2.9L, but if you've got all the 2.9L gizmos, it would be easier to use all the and drop it into the 84.
A good bit of that stuff you mentioned *might* change over ,but with a good bit of work to them.....
There is a lot more difference between a 2.8 and a 2.9 than meets the eye.
The timing gears in the 2.8 were replaced with a standard timing chain, which necessitated moving the cam upwards in the block. The block is taller.
