I installed the the Optima 34/78 red tops and the Optima adapter worked on the passenger side, had to use the GM adapter on the right side because I have the AIS Severe Duty kit which included a battery tray which is a bit larger than the stock one. The GM adapter layed over the top of the battery clip and tightened down ok.
I folded over a small section of the heat wrap and tie strapped them around each battery.
HeatStroked- I thought you didn't LIKE the Optima's (?)
Horsecop - There is only ONE real truck in Utah - It's white, with a girl in it!! Where I got my batt's, they did not have the adapters - so, just got the ole J-hook type tie-downs. Worked great, for in a pinch. Solid as a brick. Kept the blocks for future use.
Quad - You can't blush!! You've got WORK to do still!!
Diesel Lady - No stock downpipe or exhaust. First thing gone. Other mods to come, hopefully shortly - Tru-Cool tranny cooler and Magnefine filter. THEN eventually the Intercooler. But, that's down the pike. Always keep track of stats stuff. Will have to see what's cooking there. HOWEVER, one needs to keep foot out of rpm's for effective comparison!!
This is NOT your daddy's Oldsmobile. This IS the hotrod I always wanted!!!

Me apologize...I guess it was the Tymar thing, huh?
Horsecop - We DO do this out here in the West !! , but in Utah we mostly just do this Come on out - we are really friendly folk!! ...and we have gorgeous country....but, only ONE real diesel - white, girl in it!!
Originally posted by HeatStroked Oh, now I get it, if your not a Dale, "Tymar" groupie, you're one of those negative other guys ......................
Hey, hey, Big Guy!!! I guess I should be lookin' up what I'm a'thunkin' BEFORE I say it, huh!?
You have been attentive, helpful, responsive, and a DELIGHT!! So, you're not getting any dissing from ME!!! (...even if you AREN'T a Dale groupie!! But, there's still hope yet, so hang in there!!)
Thanks, HeatStroked (and I love your pic!! Quad thinks I should look like Shania Twain - so, maybe I'll put one of THOSE pics up there!! )
Here's what really happened: You sent me an email, I replied, you replied, I replied, then you said to tell my wife that I hadn't found a new internet girlfriend. I said: "She won't have a problem with us exchanging emails.....unless you look like Shania Twain."
I know it's cold in Utah. Are you at some elevation, too? I'm wondering if the air might be a little thin there.....
Originally posted by skuteman Personally, I would rather have the Motocraft batteries. I don't think that the Optima's have any decided advantage over the Motocraft. There is A Very Good reason that the Ford bat's are as Big as they are and it's called cranking Amps. You'd better off with the Motocraft's in my opinion........s.kuteman
Motorcraft is a good battery, made by Johnson controls, as is the Optima, The reason for the large size is to get more lead into it for the cranking power. The Optima is smaller because the lead is wound into a spiral, allowing more lead to be put into a smaller case. The Optima has tremendous CCA, (the published rating is worst case scenario). The decided advantages of the Optima are numerous, first it has better vibration resistance, it is sealed, meaning no corrosion on the cables, tray, fender, or anything else, it can be mounted in any position and cannot leak,(it is the only battery that can be air shipped). There are several auto manufactures that use the optima stock. The new ford GT will come with an Optima 75/35, Mack Trucks and Peterbuilt are comming with the Optima GRP.31's, The PT cruiser comes with an Optima Battery that is made specially for them. There are indeed very good reasons that Ford uses large batteries, but unfortunately, companies dont always look strictly at performance as their deciding factor when using a product as an OEM.
Originally posted by Kraken Hi Dsl Luvr Ldy, did you purchase these batteries yet? Because it sounds like a lot of trouble for batteries that only sound ok to me. I dont know if you read my last reply on your other thread about my Interstate batteries I bought but not only do they kick some good butt ( 1000 CA and 875 CCA ) but they fit right in no problem with heat shield and all. I think the part code is mtp-65
Interstate does not make a battery, they only have the factory label them as Interstate, they do however have an extremely rigid quality standard that has to be met before they put their name on them. Johnson controls makes the batteries for them. There is also an Optima with Interstate labeling.
