My ignition switch for my 94 is starting to look like its going to need to be replaced, only problem is I don't know how to get the thing out! Anybody willing to instruct me a little on how to remove and install a new one?
Thanks
The actual ignition switch is mounted on top of the steering column up under the dash. Is this what you are wanting to replace or are you wanting to know how to replace the lock cylinder, where the key goes in?
if you need to replace the lock cylender put the key in and turn forward to the run position, look under the steering column for a small hole under the key area, push a straightened out paperclip in to release the the cylender lock and pull out the whole assembly key and all.the new one should be set to push right in.
the whole job should take no more than 5 minutes.
Wow!! Thats what I need to replace, the lock cylinder, sorry. Seems too easy, but if thats it I don't know what I am worrying about, maybe do that one tomorrow, thanks!!
Yeah, got the lock cylinder replaced today, makes a huge difference, before I got it I could pull the keys out at anytime (Kind of handy sometimes) and the outer chrome ring would twist freely (without moving keys), so thanks to BOJOFASO for the removal instructions, made it so much easier, knowing me I probably would have taken the whole steering column out!!
Yeah, that outer chrome ring twisting freely resulted in keys breaking off in my lock cylinder years ago. It's a good idea to replace it at about that time.
did you buy the lock cylender from ford or an auto parts store? if from ford was it real hard to set the key pins to match your original keys? i used an aftermarket switch in my wifes areostar and now we have two keys. much cheaper but a pain in the neck with two keys.
