As I spoke with a friend of mine the other day he told me something that I found very interesting. He told me that at the Fenton MO Dodge plant he had seen a chart showing the Rankings for quality that all the auto plant in the U.S. recieve. He told me that that Ford held all the top five or so spots while dodge was at the bottom of the list and GM filled in the middle of the road.
I'm not sure how much truth there is toi this story, but it did come from a Dodge driver. Sound good to me anyway.
I can see that to be true. In the last 3 months, I investigated two crashes involving Dodge Rams. Both went off the road and hit a driveway approach and went skyward. The first one had a nice 4 point landing in a swamp, but still managed to bend the front axle housing.
The one that happened last night, A woman drove off the side of the road and hit a driveway approach, and launched, and literally tore the front axle out from under the truck. This was a 3/4 ton truck and she didnt grab a whole lot of air.
I was very surprised the amount of undercarriage damage in these two crashes because the rest of the truck(s) had superficial dents and scratches.
It just goes to show ya, WHere FORDS QUALITY IS JOB 1- Dodge is still in the UNEMPLOYMENT LINE.
Ford's quality has slipped (by their own admission)the last couple of years. Not a lot,but quality should always be improving. There is currently a large push at Ford to improve the quality that has degraded a bit the last couple of years. With Jac Nasser gone and Bill Ford at the helm,I think Ford will in the near future exceed the best quality standards they had a couple of years ago.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Jun-02 AT 11:06 PM (EST)]im not that surprised about the dodges undercarage commin out. all they have supporting the front axle is the coil springs and those undersized stamped control arms. i see these dodge/cummins guys pullin at the truck pulls alot and im just waitin fer these control arms to just buckle under the pressure. boy would that make my day to see that!
