I have a 78 F250 4 X 4, running the 460. She's bolted up to either an early C6 or C4...I'm not sure which, and not sure how to tell.
Anyhow, I believe the Bands need adjusting. When ya plant ya hoof, she drops back 2 second...but then jumps back to third and drops again into second and so on....
Not Good I can tell ya!.. LOL
She also surges in up revs between changing from second to third normally...not a lot...but noticable...
Could I get some advice on the matter....sure be appreciated !
It sounds like a little more than a band adjustment. Check your kick down linkage maybe tighten it up a little. On a C6 the external adjustment is just above the pan rail on the passenger side. It looks like a bolt with a small hex and a big jam nut. Loosen the jam nut while holding the bolt still. Try turning the bolt in 1/8 turn at a time then test drive. There is a torque spec for that bolt but I can't recall it right now. If that doesn't fix it you know what time it is.
to adjust the bands on the c-6, remove the lock nut on the band adjsutment screw, tighten the adjustment screw to 120 in-lbs, then loosen exactly 1 and1/2 turns. Put on locknut and tighten securely, but make sure to hold the adjustment screw in place to prevent it from turning.
