Question how much for an E4OD?

Anyone know about how much a good used E4OD for a '90 F150 runs? I checked Jasper trans. for a remanufactuered one and they are pricey($2300). My Lariat is about ready for one. Slipping some when downshifting into low gear. --Jack

Have ya thought about rebuilding your own? I don't know if the price would be any lower, but then you get to pick any options to put in it. I know when I had mine rebuilt, Aamco told me $1250 to bring it back to stock, but I don't think they included labor of $750 to this. I chose to get all the upgrades, and use steel components, making it "bulletproof", labor included, for $2800. If you do buy a rebuilt one, make sure it has the updates in it, which most onesI would think probably will. You don't want the same problems with all that money spent.

It might be worth having two or three reputable trans shops( even a dealer) give you an idea of what is wrong. The E4OD is controlled by the computer. Lousy oil, or a couple of bad sensors in the drivetrain could make your tranny sick. Try to read thru as many threads on the E4OD here, and you'll get a sense of the various problems that can disable an otherwise "working" trans.

Yeah I think I'll go that route before I spend a couple grand or get an unproven used trans.--Jack

Someone quoted the prices for just the parts, and that came to almost $2,000. I'd say hit a used parts dealer, and get one that has a 3 month warranty. That's what I think I'm going to have to do for mine when it finally dies.
