I have heard many times that the big window option is rare and have wondered if any estimates as to the relatively availability for these years. After considerable hunting, I have located a '56 and '59 with large rear window. I haven't seen many '59 F100 ro F250 with option but might be more than I think. Does anyone have insight into this question? I must say that the '59 F250 looks great but truck needs work despite being complete and was wondering if worth fixing or just wait for another example?
Either one is a rare option. As for how many were made, its anybodys guess. Usually, if they had the wrap around rear window, they were optioned out for the rest of the truck. Alot of 1959 f-250 4x4 have the big back window. 57-60 big window's are not very hard to find, but it does take a little bit of looking. If your going resto, get the info off the vin plate and we can tell you what engine tranny colors etc. the truck was made with. -4speed
Thanks for help...I plan to restore both with original engines etc. The VIN was odd on the '59 but here it is F25C9R39xxx
Axle 04 Trans F color B WB-118 HP(158@4000rpm). This truck is without big window but comes as a package deal. I don't have VIN for big window yet. The truck above is very solid and looks like well maintained original with 292 V8. both with extra parts for around $2500. The big window has rust in floorboards but no rust in fenders, hood, or bed!
I've also heard many people refer to the Big back window option as being "rare". Certainly not as many of them were ordered as the standard back window, but I don't believe the term "rare" is really accurate.
To me, "rare" would be more like the '57-'60 "safety package" (padded dash, padded sun visors). You just don't see many of them.
There seems to be many of the big back windows still around. Maybe not in the next town over like they used to be, but through the internet, e-bay, Hemmings, salvage yards, FTE members, etc., I've actually seen quite a few.
Unfortunately, no records exist as to how many were ordered with this option, and I couldn't make an accurate guess.
There are places that now sell a big back window "kit" for the '56. You could probably do the same thing with a '57-60 salvage yard donor.
Just my opinion, but if the '59 F-250 is in decent workable shape and the price is right, I'd go for it.
If not, I personally wouldn't buy it just for the window, and I would definately wait for another to come along.
F25............3/4 Ton Conventional cab
C................292 V-8
9................1959 Model year
R................San Jose assembly plant
39xxx.........Sequential production number
Axle 04.......4.56 Rear axle gear ratio
Trans F.......4 speed synchronized
Color B .......Midnight blue (actually a 1958 color) I've never seen this before. Was there a date code? Maybe it is a very early '59.
W.B.118......118" wheelbase
The code for paint was hard to read. It may be a D or O but I think the car sports original paint which looks like a turquoise with white bumper and white trim dash. I am planning to buy the F250 for around $2000 and it is currently driven daily so didn't think that was too bad. It has the chrome grill if that is commom or not but looks great. I am looking to buy the truck to tow a small car and thought with the axle and trans that should be a problem?? Date code of truck 11F
I must say that I think this is an awesome board! I have long loved ford pickups every since my grandfather and I would drive around the county in his red '56 F100. I am currently restoring this truck but needing to get a cab I think.

Sounds like its a custom cab model since you said it had a chrome grille(standard on custom cab). Believe me, with 4:56 gears and the 4spd in granny, you could pull 3 cars! Not a highway cruiserby anymeans though. the truck was built on june 11, 1958. The code might be B. -4speed
I dont think the big(wrap) rear window is rare, just harder to find. I am on my second one(both 1960) and there is a 58 or 59 a few blocks away from me.
