brake question...

Vehicle is a 97 ford explorer, Eddie bauer edition. I am unsure of the engine specifics... hopefully that wont matter... question is How is the brake caliper attached and held in place, along with the rotor... is it totally connected to the axle or is it removable?? Thanks in advance for your help! :-)

Hi,

While I am not familiar with your exact application, most calipers are held on with 2 long bolts that screw in from the back of the assembly. These may have a Hex, Torx, or Allen head.

As for the rotor, is your truck 2 or 4 wheel drive? If 2 wheel, then after you remove the caliper, remove the dust cover cap. It is located in the center of the rotor assembly. Under it you should find a cotter pin. Remove it and then you have access to the spindle nut. Remove it and then your rotor with bearings should pull off of the spindle.

Good luck

Oops,

Sorry I can't help you with the rotor question then as my ole 1970 has drums all the way around. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Good luck,
