Completely rebuilt, 1987 2.9L motor
Ignition fires and advances fine.
Leakdown test (after only 30 minutes runtime since
overhaul) shows 15-25%.......good
With the fuel rail/injectors removed from intake and
placed upside down while cranking, ALL injectors
fire simultaneously and equally. Good fuel pressure
PROBLEM: After cranking/starting engine, it begins
to miss badly after 1-2 seconds of running. I suspect fuel injection control because it smooths out when carb-cleaner is shot into throttle valve.
What would cause fuel injectors to cut out after the
starting circuit cuts off? The banks of injectors fire at opposite times, correct? They don't fire all at the
same time as I understand.... It seems as though
the passenger side is affected much more (by removing spark plug leads)
Did the EEC-IV test (KeyOnEngineOff only). My voltmeter
read a steady 12volts across the correct pins whether the ignition was on or off-- no codes AT ALL. No "check engine" light on dash either.
I have a similar question, my 300 acts like it's missing at low speeds. I'm wondering if it could be vacuum loss as well. I don't notice any bad lines, and I've replaced (some/all?) awhile back just because. I figured I had dirty injectors. I know something like this could be caused by many things, so here's what I know...
good plugs/wires/cap/rotor
new fuel filter
ran Techron fuel injector cleaner
Checked all ECA and engine grounds-- all good.
Disconnected sensors individually-- no change in
self-test reading, still 12v. Weird reading!
Ordered 'reconditioned' ECA at NAPA (new ones not
available apparently)......but I'd like to get a spare
one. If I get one from same vehicle, year, engine,
tranny etc and it has a different label code, will it still work fairly well?
As long as the computer is from the same engine/tranny/year vehicle, it will work fine. If the computer is the same year/tranny/engine, it is probably the same programming, regardless of what code is written on it.
