Question Flange Type Hubs

I have a 1987 F-150 4x4 first bought it at the begining of summer and what a nightmare so far. I have flange type hubs and I was wondering if there was any way to convert to a sleeve type hub by installing an 88' brake rotor Whatever helps 'cause Im just learning about 4x4

p.s. I took it upon myself to install a 2.5'' Lift (I don't know if that will affect anything.)

You should be able to use the 88 parts to change it over with no problem. I can't remember if you can use the 87 spindle though. Just compare them for length, if you can.

I had a 88 and it had the same hubs on it. The kind that come off with the wheel. I had a few probs with them but no more than the other kind.
As far as changing them over, you need the hole set up, spindle, hubs, rotar, and the stub axel. I think the calipers might work.

Thanks for the advice guys I ran around yesterday and stumped all of the parts store clerks but between Carquest and Checker Auto I found out that the rotor part numbers for an 87' and 88' are the same, I probably have a lot more research to do. Hey Clipper1 do you know of any links for the stub shafts? And in your mud racer what did you have under the lid? I've been thinking of getting a stroker kit for my 302-->347.

If you whant to change, go to a junk yard and find a donor truck with manual hubs. Then buy every thing. That is the best way.

I had a 302 F.I. to start, modified with a cam chip and headers. Then I had a 302 carb, cam, ported heads, edelbrock intake and carb, headers. had 325 h.p.. I stuck a ring on 1# cycl. The last one was 351w carb. Cam, ported heads, edelbrock intake and carb. Headers msd ingnion, and all kinds of other goodies. 401 H.P. on dyno. Loved it. Then 2 months after i got it in, a lady totaled my truck for me.

Well, I truly have anything against Flange type hubs except to me it doesn't seem right that everytime I take a wheel off I have to catch my hub and pray to the 4by God that nothing falls out. Plus I have to replace the hubs anyway and I am tired of running into the same problems as 38inches friend. (Because one night after it dumped like 20 inches of snow I decided to go round town in 4by and I was taking off and heard a loud clunk beneath my feet and lost four wheel drive, made sure it wasn't the t-case or diff so I pretty much have it down to 1 hub giving out and limited slip making the other one innefective.) So while I'm at it I want to upgrade my hubs to something a little more serviceable. (!!!!!!!And the most embarrasing part of all this is, a chevy towed me to my house!!!!!!!!!!)

I got my from a ford dealer and a local junkyard. Something to look for when it does fall off when you take the tire off. Ther is rubber o-wring that goes on the outter edge. That needs to go back in the right way and not out of the grove.
