brazing exaust pipes
Now I have had a lot of situations where brazing an exaust pipe joint would have been so much easer than using my gassles wire welder, that thing usually pops a hole were I dont want one, where it seems to me, on a tight pipe repair job flowing braze into the joiunt would be GREAT.
will the braze hold up to the exaust pipe temps?
I find all the right answers on this site so I'll give this unknown Q a shot!
I have some sheet metal work to do this spring on my truck, and the wire welder does the job but (for me) its not an easy job, I watched a buddy of mine braze sheet metal body work it looks a lot easier and the results are much better... I am gonna teach myself how to braze this spring
and I want to know BEFORE i make the mistake, if the exaust pipes can be brazed also. And what kinda rods are best for this type of aplication. (or does it even matter.... I'm still reading on the subject, so anything you have will help)THANKS!!
just remember that everything has to be very clean for the bronze to stick.
I find that brazing in position is much harder than regular fusion welding
If you have oxy- acetylene, you may want to try regular gas welding. I found that it makes a very good job on items like exhaust pipes

THANKS!!
On standard pipes (mild steel tubing) I sometimes take an old LOHI (E7018) 3/32" diameter and knock the flux off. This works great for small jobs.
Most of the time I use my wife's stockpile of clothe's hangers, the cheap steel ones without the lacquer coating. Works great!
