Here's the question: Where can I get a magnetic pickup coil new for a Ford Carb labeled C4AF 12127 -A ? My truck is a Ford F100 1969 SWB, 390 V8 thunder bird engine. I am replacing a "Wellstronic" module that threw up it's epoxy guts. I purchase a Mallory HyFIRE 685 ignition and coil. I would like to put in a new pickup coil, but none of the auto parts can help me when I give the Carb numbers and truck specs.
When they look in their books they quote" But it's suppose to have points". Can someone here help ?
Is this magnetic pick-up coil for the distributor? If it is, what type of distributor do you have? And why does it matter what carb you have? Or does this thing go on the carb, whatever it is?
Okay, sorry for the "SIMPLE" mistake. The distributor is a Ford labeled C4AF 12127 -A. I repeat the Disributor is a Ford labeled C4AF 12127 -A. Hope that clears up the confusion.
The reason that the parts books don't list it, is because your distributor did come with points. The wellstronic drops in place of your points. You can drop a set of points back in and run it unless they gutted the distributor.
Check for electronic ignitions distributors from 75 or so on up. If none of your local yards have one, make them call the hotline. There are at least 3 or 4 yards here that have what you need. Probably for under 50 bucks.
Ok. I think I've got it. You have an aftermarket ignition trigger that replaced the original points, and it blew up. And you also want to install an aftermarket cd ignition box too.
You have several options.
You can convert the dist back to points. The points will last a long time because their only job will be triggering the ignition box.
You can do like was suggested above, and get a duraspark II dist and install it. I think you might have better luck trying to get one for a 360 engine, since they made these into the mid to late 70's. If you got this distributor, you would probably have to go to the mallory website, and see if they have a diagram of how to make the duraspark II dist trigger the new ignition box.
