i was wondering out there, i know that 92-96 f150's came with a manual tranny with a 302 and being 4x4. now did they put manual trannys behind the 351? i have a 96' with 351 and would love for it to be a 5 speed. i have been thinkin of swaping out the auto for a manual. i know what i need but i dont know what trannys are the ones to get. if anyone could give me some insite on what ford 5 speeds are out there for the 4x4, and what would be good for a 351 4x4. thanks

The F-250's and F-350's came with the ZF 5-speed tranny, commonly bolted to either the 351W or the 460. The F-150's typically used the Mazda 5-speed, but they don't last as long. The ZF has a granny first gear, and will hold up better to the power. If you are for all out durability, the New Venture NV4500 is one of the best trannies ever made, although expensive.

well hey thanks for the information, so they put the mazda trannys behind the 302's i take it. so i should look for a ZF tranny then. that should hold up good enough for my 351. i have never seen yet a f150 with a 5 speed and a 351 combination. but thanks again
