[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Jun-02 AT 11:45 PM (EST)]yea, it is splined and glued with some bad sticky stuff!!! i got a new shifter fer my 02 back in early may and i still cant get the **** off. i have pryed, twisted, heated, even beat on it with a hammer from the bottom side up and it is still on there! i dont know what else to do??? if anybody has any suggestions im up to them.
Anyone notice that the shift lever is rather long? When I'm in OD, I have to reach around the thing to get to the climate controls. I'm thinking of shortening it a bit.
Hey Nathan, did you buy an extra lever? How much did it cost?
Can you maybe cut the **** vertically on each side (like splitting it), then pry it apart... just a thought. I might just cut mine down and re-thread it to accept a normal screw-on ****.
THANKS GUYS FOR YOUR INPUT. WELL, IT SEEMS THERE EXISTS A FLAW IN THE GREATEST TRUCKS EVER. OH WELL, CAN'T BE PERFECT.
BUT THERE NEVER WILL BE A GREATER TRUCK THAT A BLUE OVAL!

no i have not got it off yet. i was waitin till i got a briliant idea into my head to get it off with out damaging the shifter or the ****. i just may go and buy a new shifter.
How about cutting into the top half of the ****, then working the rest off like pealing a banana. The only problem would be how far down could you cut when taking the top off. Just an idea. Might just work, but bee careful don't want to damage the stick.
my buddy has a 98 f-150 manual tranny. after about 2 years the **** just sort of worked its way off. and now it comes off all of the time. but if you are like me and have the patience of a 2 year old i would recomend a hairdryer/heat gun. but a hacksaw and a screwdriver for prying will work too, that is what i did to my dads.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Jun-02 AT 03:39 PM (EST)]yea, my 92 ranger had that happen also. when you grabbed a hard second the **** would fly off and make me so mad!!!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jun-02 AT 03:47 AM (EST)]How about this one? It's your standard 8 ball drilled out to fit on the stick. It's a handful, but looks cool!
I got the original **** off my 2000 by placing a wrench against the bottom of the **** and hitting it upward with a hammer. Popped right off after I broke loose the adhesive.
