Sorry for the dumb question, but this post caught my eye, I am some-what embarassed, I am from Australia but don't know who captain kangaroo is, I thought the orginator of this post must have been taking the **** out of Australia, but it is obviously was some high rating american tv show that is long gone. Can some-one fill me in on this one? By the way anyone ever heard of "Skippy the bush Kangaroo" that was a top rating show down here. If anyone has heard of this show I will bear my bum and put it on the net. By the way Steve Irwin is a ******. Good onya mate!!!!!!!!!!

You've pretty much figured it out on your own. "Captain Kangaroo" was one of the first kid's shows on American television, from late 50's to late 70's, maybe? I remember cartoons, sight gags, basic scientific demonstrations, book readings. Like I said, he never talked down to kids, was always very calm and polite (never used any "clown-like" antics). He seemed more like your grandfather or favorite uncle. He won many awards over the years for his show. A true American treasure.
