I have a 1988 F150 4x4, 5.0L. It is idling very high and will maintain 32MPH with foot off the accelerator. I cleaned the the throttle plates. I noticed (finally) that I had no Check engine light when starting the truck. I found that there was no bulb in the check eng lamp holder. I installed the bulb and I now get a flashing check engine light when accelerating. I wanted to read the codes myself usingf the check eng light. Where is the test connector and are there any other troubleshooting advice?
Don't know about the codes but I would suspect a vacuum leak or thottle position sensor to start. On many vehicles you can short two pins on the al/dl connector and get the light to flash the codes.
