Question Painting Engine & Manifold?

I'm not sure if this should be here or not, but is it possible to paint the manifold chrome with engine paint? Or will it burn off?

Anybody want to share their Engine photos?

Yes, but I've never seen high heat chrome paint...You do not need high heat paint for the block, but if memory serves the heat resistence of some of the speciality paints such as chrome have a much lower heat threshold than regular paint.

Interesting, I'll have to check that out!

Back in high school we used to call the silver paint that some people would use on their cars "mexichrome".

I've see pictures of someone on this forum who painted their Exhaust manifold a "chrome" color and it looked great! But I don't want to go through the trouble of painting it and have it burn off too quickley. Know what I mean.

Here's something similar from: fordman428
https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=31724&width=2

BTW
How hot does the manifold get?

manifold shouldnt get much more than 200* I would think, and the block about the same, maybe more where the ex manifolds get close to it.

Mexichrome- I love it! Kinda like Alabama Chrome- Duct tape!

I think that's aluminum header paint in the link.

The intake isn't gonna get that hot to burn off paint. BTW, what engine do you have? The only time I've seen paint burn off an intake is the old Y-block with its air-gap style intake and exhaust crossover in the center. The paint burns only about an inch above the crossover passage.

I got a '71 f-100 Custom, 3-on-tree, 300-6...

So I guess I won't have a problem.

Is it a bad idea to paint the manifold?
Do you think it would look cheesy?

If it's cast-iron I'd say paint it. You should be able to get 500* paint, but do not bother with home improvement stores. A good body shop should help you out.

Do you want to brush it on? I've seen pics of brush paint engines, and they looked good to me. Cheaper too.

There are very few coatings that will hold up on exhaust manifolds. The exhaust manifold often will get over 500 deg in certain situations (lugging, or if your engine is a little out of tune).

The best paints are rated to 1500 degree, or of course, you can go with ceramic coatings. The 1500 deg paints are not really paints -- you spray them on, then BAKE the thing in an industrial oven at 500 degrees for an hour or so.

You can come close in your wife/girlfriend/mothers oven, but you might be single/alone/orphaned shortly thereafter.

I seriously doubt it is worth your trouble to try any of the current "chrome" paints. The high temp paint does come in a silver. I like black so its harder to see the areas where it has burned off!!

Yeah - Sorry (I thought intake, too)

Still should be able to get 1500* paint. Have you thought about powder coat?
