Fuel Pumps

I am looking to buy a new fuel pump for my '79 302. I was looking at the Holley mechanical 80gph pump and then I was wondering about the electrical 97gph pump. Is it worth it to buy the electrical pump or just stick with the mecahincal pump? Holley or Edelbrock? I appreciate any feedback you can provide thanks for reading my post.

Go with the mechanical one. They will last much longer than any electric pump.

I also recomend just getting an Airtex pump if you can. They run about $40. They are very good.

Just go with the mechanical. Cheaper and will last longer than an electrical.

If you ever have a vapor lock problem get the electric and bypass the mechanical.

I was eyeing up the Holley Red pump. Is the extra 17 gph really that noticable? I have a stock pump on right now so I have no idea what the fuel rate is. Whatever it is I am sure that the 80 gph will be a big difference so that is why I was wondering if it was even worth the extra money to get another 17 pgh. What do you say?

Are you running a stock carb?

if so, just get the 80GPH one if you are that dead set on wasting your money.

I have a Holley Street Avenger 570 cfm carburetor. I am currently using a stock pump given to me by a friend so I can run my truck back and forth to work. My 302 is bored .030 over and I have a 260H Competition Cam in as well. So with that being said, and not to sound like a broke record, which do you recommend and why?

I'm still gonna recommend a stock replacement Airtex pump. Not to sound like a broken record, but I do know a few things, and that is all you need, you don't race the truck (nobody races bricks ) there is no need for the fancy $150 fuel pump that a $36 pump will accomplish.

I see your point. Does Summit sell the Airtex pump? If not where can I get one? I am still learning and I knew this might be the best place to get a good answer to my question. I appreciate all your feedback and I am kind of glad because I did not want to bypass the current pump to install an electric one. Well thanks again and if anything else comes to mind I'm all ears.

You can get a good pump at Napa, or Bumper to Bumper, or Auto Value. Depending on which one is in your area.

You can also have it shipped from one of these:

I put an electric pump on mine because they didn't make a mechanical with enough GPH to keep up with my motor.I tried that high volumn Holley mechanical, but the motor starved. So I ran the Blue with all new Areoquip hardware.I have -10 from the tank to the pimp,-8 from the pump to the regulator and -6 from the regulator to the carb.Plus I put high flow needle's andseat's in the carb.If you want to see a picture here the link.http://www.superford.org/?vID=4037
Just click on (fuel system).
