K I did a road trip today to do a good shake down and get a very good repor going with my baby. You know get aquainted...
There's definately something wrong in my transmission but not being highly knowledgable in it I can't tell what it is.
To me I woudl best guess there is either something wrong with my flywheel or that my transmission has lost a few teeth (it's a manual) The main times it shows? starting in first it gives that awful wrenching sound... not because I have to fight or anything with no no she's quite smooth just as I let the clutch out it sounds like bad school bus shifting Then usually going from 3 to 4 on acceleration... 4 will grumble mainly with what sounds to me like slipping teeth or a bad flywheel. No troubles downshifting from 5 to 4 or 4 to 3 or so on.the two areas that seem to be problems are starting in first or shifting into 4th from 3rd. the fourth is a problem I can't seem to smooth out whereas the problem in first is easily smoothed by pressing the throttle a little more than I'd like as I clutch out.
IS this my tranny or something a little less expensive... The other thing I noticed is sudden spurting... especially if I shift into fourth for around town cruising (at around 60 kph) if I step a little harder on the gas she almost hiccups until she hits up around 80 kph but doesn't feel or sound like she's too low in her gear...
Its been a long time since I worked on a manual transmission, but what you describe sounds like a either a worn throw out bearing, clutch disk or pressure plate assemby. They all work in conjunction with each other so often it is hard to differentiate a problem with just one component. Normally all three are replaced during a routine clutch repair proceedure which is likely what you are looking at. Sounds like the transmission itself is okay if the syncronizers are all working properly. Sometimes the mainshaft and layshaft bearing wbill wear but that is accompanied by a low, growling sound, not what you describe. The hiccuping problem could be many things but an inspection of the various vacuum lines would be the first place to start.
well there is a problem with the engine revving up to the right speed for the gear... unless I give her gas myself she just shudders and can't figure out what to do with herself. Not like I rev it hard just that I remind it that hey you have gas by just giving it a tap...
I finally took her to a mechanic... The clutch is set wrong aparently. The set point is so high the clutch doesn't fully release every time which explains the shudders and the slippage. All of it is hard on the clutch and has burnt it out pretty bad. Lucky me though the car is still under dealer warranty and since the problem was there prior to my purchase they will repair my clutch for free. though I plan to drive the truck there myself and watch them do it then bring her back. the last time I sent her to the mechanic from my dealership it went roaring by me with the tires peeling and the gears grinding as I walked to work. Never again. I stay with her this time. Either way we found the problem and the fix. My star should be good again in no time... I'm running her about 3-400 kilometers a day for deliveries right now plus pleasure miles.she's holding up fine. I keep track of her fluids and tire pressure and get a super ultra wash at canadian tire every couple of days when the wax wears off and the salt finally starts to stick again lol. Done a few short out of town trips and she's a dream on the highway lots of guts from the 5 speed... makes me wonder if it really is the 3.0 under the hood sometimes...
Anyway ramble ramble back to work.
