My truck has a relatively low temperature (and I'm in LA and it feels like its 75 degrees out today... anyway I noticed that my truck has a very low temp lately - together with a "weak" (i dunno how else to explain it... sorry) idling.
It feels weak if you press the accel pedal lightly... (I know it may sound stupid, but I think it had more power before...)
But if you floor the pedal, then all is good.... dunno if this has anything to do with the water temp or if I'm just to paranoid.
For reference - my plugs, wires and rotor/cap have been replaced within a year ago - so I don't think it can be that...
It is possible for it to be overcooling. I think it would store a fault code for it. At least I have seen others do it, but have not encountered it with any of my Fords. Go with the thermostat 1st, probably gonna take care of it.
I was looking in the haynes manual to make sure what I need to buy before I start... I know I need a new thermostat, I am assuming a new gasket... what should I use as the sealant? and is there anything else i need to get?-
My.02 cents worth i would go back with the oem thermostat- which is prolly 194degrees.If every thing else is ok then your fine . I always use the permatex rtv silicone gasket maker 598b . Never had any leaks with this sealant, course i always use a gasket and dab a little on both side to help seal from leaks Good luck TR
ok here's my update.... after making a mess in my apartment parking lot, I managed to get my thermostat changed. (after 2 gaskets)
funny thing is that my temp meter is still reading a bit on the cold side.
any suggestons? temp sensor?
its not that my truck is running funny, but i feel like it lost a bit of power on the low end.... but then i just came back from a weekend trip to mammoth mountain and drove 700 miles at 75mph...
My truck is doing the same thing, and as soon as I have some time I'm going to replace the thermostat. I've also noticed a loss of power and some odd changes to how it runs since the cold snap.
Questions (and hopefully part answer):
With the engine not running as hot as it was designed to, will the plugs not fire properly - causing the truck to run funky?
Also, if the engine is running too cool, will it send cooler exhaust through the cats - throwing off the O2 sensor - which would then cause a chain reaction of funk back up through the system?
I hope someone can help us... because just FYI, i changed my thermostat, and nothing has changed for me... I am experienceing the same power loss etc.... (and i'm in LA )
