looking at a used '02 Supercrew with the 5.4L, 4x2. I have a Expedition with the 5.4L 4x4, Is the fuel economy going to be the same or are the 4x2 better. I don't know the gearing. I get about 13 in the Expedition. thanks
I dont have any numbers for you but the SC should get better mileage than the Expy.
The SC is probably a bit lighter but I'm not positive.
The 4x4 front end (axles etc) etc is always turning which will use more fuel.
The 4x4 sits higher so it is less aerodynamic which should make it use more fuel.
ON my '01 SCrew, 5.4, 17" wheels, 4x4, bedcap- I get about 16.5+ mixed city/hwy (that's the only time I check it). You should do better than 13. just for comparison....
thanks guys, my dealer called and someone is buying the truck today. I don't want it with this kind of mileage. I have one that sucks down gas. And I like driving it.
With my setup I am getting about 18 average on the highway... Got as high as 22mpg on a long trip averaging 55-70mph with a heavy load on... Without the load I think I could get up to 24.
Is all of your driving down hill with a tail wind or something? Mine averages about 13 around town and maybe 18 will all highway driving.
My truck is about the same as yours, OffRoad 4x4 supercab 5.4L, K&N filter, Flomaster w/ dual tailpipes, 3.55 gears. I can't see ever getting 24mpg. I'd be happy to see 20mpg.

If you used a calculator to figure your milage you shuold check the batteries. It is possible to get 18 strictly on the highway with your foot out of it and no load, 22 no way and 24 is a dream.
