Torx bit set

I only need one, namely T-50. I don't even see where I can use the other ones. I looked on ebay, but they seem to sell new Craftsman sets. Where are these tools useful, and why don't they use a regular bolt instead of torx?

I need to adjust a door on a Ford sedan.

You can buy individual Torx bits at good auto parts stores and good tool stores, -probably not Sears. They use Torx on seatbelts also.

For the price difference between just the one you need and a whole set ( not all that much when you look at the cost per tool), I would get a set. Nothing is more aggravating than getting half-way through tearing something down and have to stop to go get a different bit or tool.
Just my $.02

I bought a set of male Torex that fit on my socket wrench for about $10 at autozone.

For an extra $5, I could have gotten the ones that also fit over the center pin. (Tamper resistant)

It was needed to adjust the door latch post on my Ford truck.

Get the whole set, for sure... The brake calipers are torx (45) and the seat belts are torx (50 or 55)... you can pretty much skip the tiny ones, so if there is a large set and a little set, get the larger sizes... unless you're like me, then you will have them all just because there was space in the tool box for them....
tools... mmmmmm

I used to use a #6 to take apart two-radios. That was a small sucker.

I have several sets, one for 3/8" drive, one with handles for security screws, one with handles plain, several hex drive sets for use with drill drivers, and a folding set for security screws that stays with the computer tools. Plus a number of loose bits both 3/8 and hex drive.

I can't ever find one if I need it tho, -they all morph into phillips or hex or something in that magic tool box drawer that was full of torx when you were looking for that phillips screw driver ten minutes ago...

Another place to try for tools - altho not the quality I'd buy if I was making a living with them - is Harbor Freight - catalog, stores and order on line......... Got mine there! Try www.harborfreight.com

Ebay has a ton of them, though rarely in the sizes you want.

Just my opinion, but I've had at least two sets and I think Torx tools are one thing you can't get a good enough one. Find the best quality set you can. If you don't you'll be gettin' it later anyway. (Don't ask why I know!) I've had a "good" set now for quite a few years and wish I'd bought it first.

If you buy just the one that you need right now, you will eventually need another, then another and end up with a set if you stay in this work/hobby. I suggest yu buy something with a good warrantyl policy, not one you have to send off for, cuz yu can only break em if you are using them and waiting sucks. Stay away from the "Lisle"(?) brand, they strip really easily. IMHO

Is that old age or what? I have the same problem; but it's just on all those odd ball hex, torx, phillips, slotted etc. Sometimes, I've bought ones that I already have.

The guys on the Merkur forums highly recommend the Benchtop brand from Kmart. Made in China, but they seem to hold up very well. Better than Craftsman/Husky, even.
