I've got a "moaning" noise that accompanies a "rubbing" feeling in the floorboards. Noise seems to be originating from front left wheel area while turning left (sometimes). Sound is much more pronounced while turning either way in 4WD.
Safe to say my wheel bearings need to be checked/replaced? Ford recommends repacking every 35K and I'm at 80K and I've never done it
Is the noise associated with the turning of the steering wheel? In other words do you hear it when the truck in not moving? If so could be in steering/suspension.
I mention it because I had bad ball joints that caused quite a problem. Not sure if it is your case though.

I'm very sure it's not the steering system; I know that noise
Matt, I've never done mine, but I know that the hub and bearing is an assembly unlike the 2WD's that have the bearings stuck behind the spindle nut. I think you have to remove the entire hub to replace (you might even have to replace the entire assembly). Might be worth a trip/call to the shop to find out.
Matt,
Although my '97s bearings have made no complaints to date at 122K miles, it's not spent whole winters in snow country either. That said, other vehicles that did have bad or loose bearings made a whirring noise, not a rumble or rubbing sound, and the vibration never entered the cabin. I'd suspect the CV joints in front wheel drive or 4x4 vehicles. This can cause the sensations you describe and would be much more pronounced when turning. I once drove a Chevy a freind was thinking of buying and I was afraid it wasn't going to make it back to the used truck lot.
buzzard is right, you'd have to replace the whole assembly. From what you describe, it doesn't sound like your bearings either. Tsdrallyer said about CV joints, which could be possible, they normally make a clicking noise when turning not a rubbing one though.

Expy owners are a bold bunch.... me included.
I had to give you some grief for that one. When I first got my Expy I found this site and did some research about them. I even got you EOG. I guess It suprised me to see that you took your truck to a shop for plugs. (trust me, I am going to do the same thing... I just thought it was funny). Good luck with the CV or whatever the problem is.
I have an '03. Have 6000 miles. After the first oil change and tire rotation at 4500, I have noticed the same thing, although mine does not seem to be any more pronounced when turning. I will be taking it in soon and will let you know if they come up with anything.
