i am thinking of boring my 1987 302 bronco i want some advice on the price range whats the most you can bore it out to how much power increase will i notice and is there any places that are very trusty give a good deal and know what they are doing can anyone give me some web sites for this
well average price is 8 - 10$$ per cylinder, I personaly would not bore a 302 or any small block ford for the matter more 0.030 over, any thing over that and raise the risk of cracking a cylinder wall, especialy if it ever get to hot. next is you not gona notice much of a increase, maybe 3-6 hp, the only reason to bore the block is to clean the cylenders up for rebuild. if your realy looking for more cubes then look into a stroker kit, or a 351W. hope this helps DW
usually starts with a custom ground crank shaft with longer crank throws therfore longer stroke and more cubic inches you could get up to 340+ CI from a 302, or 400+ CI from a 351W. DW
.040 is ok, but don't do it unless u have to. There is really no power gain from it so it's not work boring it out for power only. I think a 302 turns into a 312 with a .060 over bore.
yes you can bore a small block ford 0.060 over but you will most like crack or colapse a cylinder wall under pressure especially if you ever run it a little bit to hot, small blocks have and old nick name (THIN WALL HENRY'S) and belive me there is a reason for it. as i said it can be done but at greater risk, i would just buy another junk yard block before i put my money in a SBF that was 0.060 over. Good luck! DW
Well as a general rule of thub ,with a few mild modifications like mild cam, headers,performance tuning your fuel injection or going to 4bbl carb and ignition system, 1 hp per cubic inch is easily obtainable, depending on how extensive you go with mods like more agresive cam, head work, and fuel efficiency, you can even get up to 1.25- 1.5 hp per cubic inch with out nitrous, turbo, or supercharger, going beyond that will get extreamly harder and expensive. so if you add 45 cubic inches you can easliy expect 45+ HP depending on it being set up properly. plus the longer stroke will yeild considerably more tork.
302 stroked to 347 == 350+ HP
351 stroked to 393 == 400+ HP
hope this helps DW
