im with nickdoni on this one. i wouldnt want the rear steering either. its just more stuff to tear up and keep aligned. but as was pointed out to me on this subject in a previous post, it can be made to carry the weight and be work. how dureable is another story though.
Does any one know if Ford is going to introduce four wheel steering
on their super duty trucks. I know Chevrolet already has it. I have a 2001 F350 4x4 crew cab and would love a better turning radius. I would also like to have the new engine and trani.
In my opinion, rear axl steering just has more weak points. On a half ton it probably works well, but on a one ton or bigger i dont see how it would carry the weight.I have the same truck as you and i agree,it takes a airport to do a 3point turn.

Just for the record. Quadra-steer incorporates a solid rear axle w/ leafs. No IRS.
The biggest advantage I see is more controlled trailering. But I imagine parking could be a plus...I really do not have a problem parking. Hopefully folks who consider buying it ($4000+ option) to help them park will think about driving classes first!
If it sells, look for Ford to incorporate it somewhere in the pickup line in a model year or three.
Now, if it comes to the SD line that is another story. Some worry about strength. But imagine a Super Duty wearing Rockwells with steering knuckles...Would you think it would be weak?
But I'd rather have some of that cool stuff from the Tonka instead, like air bag suspension from the factory!!
Not sure I like the idea of a more complex vehicle but look for 4-wheel steering in the next major re-design of the SD... IF Ford sees that it's a hit with GM's line of trucks.
I don't mean to step on any toes here but I am of the following opinion (mine only - not necessarity those of the general public). If you can't handle a truck with 2 wheel steering then you probably shouldn't be driving a truck.
I am not worried about the 4 wheel steering. For one ford will make it tough enough for the things we do with them. This is not a new Idea, Some Case tractors, and tons of fire trucks, and off road trucks have been using 4 wheel steering for years. The tests have already been done they just need to down size it enough to fit in the superduty trucks. Hope this helps, Mason

I may be wrong but as far as I know chebby doesn't offer the quad-steer in the 2500 and 3500 class of trucks just light duty (not that they make a heavy duty). sounds like a good idea though, what I would like to see is it to have differnt modes like some heavy equipment they have a selection to go either reg 2 wheel steer, 4 wheel unified, 4 wheel crab, now your talkin versitility, but I don't know if I would ever need to use it? I also have the maintnance and reliability concerns...:-)
