Looking for oil guru

OK guys I have 1000 miles on my 04-f-150 FX4 5.4 It's time to refresh the oil. Which brand of synthetic blend will prevent wear the best? Also taking truck back to the dealer tomorrow for rear passenger door latch hanging up on supercab...Thanks Mike

Depends on what grade oil you are going to use. Assuming you want to keep your warranty valid, you would use what your owner's manual specifies. Likely that is 5w20. Check to be sure, but if you are going to run 5w20, I have heard in many posts that the Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend is very good oil and that it shows good used oil analysis results. You may want to search this forum on 5w20 and see what comes up.

Its no secret, I'm a big Mobil fan, from natural to synthetic, and in between.

I know i'll be flamed for saying this but...
You dont have to use 5W-20, especially if you are going to be towing or driving hard, the 20 weight isn't enuff IMO. In europe ford specifies a 30 or 40 weight so why is it that here you need a "special" 20 weight for your vehicle to function properly.

In europe they sold 20 weight oils back in the 80's in an effort to reduce fuel consumption. RESULT?? lots of people blew their motors up becuase a petroluem based 20 weight oil cannot stand up to grudge racing and all out WOT driving in europe.

And finally, whats the use in a synthetic blend?? your rig is new you can run a full synthetic and reap the benefits. If you are going to drive it hard, or tow anything I recommend SPAMsoils HDD 5w-30 oil, or if you want to spend less money most fleet diesel oils are good too, like Delvac 1. Otherwise SPAmsoils Series 2000 0W-30 offers outstanding fuel economy and great wear protection, but Mobil 1 5w-30 have also returned some nice oil analysis reports lately. Just make sure it is the SuperSyn Mobil 1, the old trisyn isnt as good.
