Angry Paint Troubles! Advice please!

Hey Ya'll-
I have small problem, maybe some of you with paint ( or common) knowledge can help me with. My truck has a nice paint job- no dents, no big scratches... just a few minor flecks. Well, I had to give my truck a quick wash at one of those self wash booths because I didnt have time to do it properly (insurance company needed picts for insurance reasons) and I have never used one of these booths before. Well, as it turns out, the brush in the booth scratched the **** out of my paint. They are very light, fine scratches, but when you get close, you notice. They run the length of the truck, and are on the hood, tailgate, etc. I was wondering if anyone knows a good way, if its possible, to get these out? Maybe buffing? Please help...

Get what you can with wax. If that is not enough for the deeper ones, use rubbing compound. Sometimes, lines that appear to be scratches are actually material drawn on to the paint like a crayon. Branches, fingernails, and even some softer metals typically do this. All they need is to be rubbed-off.

I work at a body shop. If I were you, I'd skip the rubbing compound and use a little less abrasive method. Get a foam pad for your buffer instead of the wool pad. Then, pick up some 3M Perfect-It and use it instead of compound with the foam pad. Buffing basically takes material off, and using foam pad and perfect-it takes a minimal amount of material off. Also, there is minimal chance of burning through the paint unlike with compound and a wool pad. Look at it this way, compound is sometimes used to replace ultra-fine grit sandpaper when prepping old paint for new paint such as blending new paint up a door post if the main part of the door was the part that needed painting. This is why a foam pad is better to use. But yes, try waxing first with a "scratch remover" type wax (turtle makes some) and see what happens first. Good luck.

Thank you very much. I was thinking about trying something like that, I just didnt know exactly how to go about it. By the way, your 70` looks sweet bagged. I have been day dreaming of bagging mine, but its some nice $$$ that could go else where. I do want to lower it at least a couple inches though. Thanks again for the advice, I will let you know if it turns out (check out my truck, see what you think)
