Unhappy rear brakes keep locking up?!?!?!

Well my truck has 4 wheel drums and i put a new master and new drum assembly's on all 4 corners. i am leaning towards this being a porportioning(sp?) valve. i just cannot hit the brakes to hard or apply too much pressure b/c the rear wheels lock up. you guys have any input and know where i can pick one up at.
Thanks,
Dave

Whatever you do dont buy thornbirds. I use mtrs in the winter and 36" x 14.5" x 15" super swam tsl's in the summer. I had thornbirds before and never again.

Are the rear brakes adjusted properly? When you in-gauge the parking brake...how far down does it go? If less than half way, then the rear brakes need adjusting. I've done this on my '76 before and it seemed to work fine. Go in reverse about 10-12 ft and slam on brakes. Do this 2 or 3 times. This might help adjust them. Or...you could always pull out the brake tool and give that a try. Drum should spin with little drag.

Good luck!

How do the rear tires look?

After I went through my brakes I had a rear lockup problem. My tires were down to about 20% tread. After I had new rubber put on, the brakes work perfectly.
