Question Question?

I am new to this site and have posted a couple of things and made responses, I was looking at some of your profiles and see a 5.5k and a 10k resistor mod. Could someone tell me what this is exactly.

The 10k mod fools your processor into thinking there is higher oil pressure going to the injectors so in turn it delivers more fuel to the injectors for more power. This mod is VERY simple and fits into anyone's budget. The cost is a mere $.99 for a five pack of 10k ohm resistors at your friendly neighborhood Radio Shack!! and this lets you do 5 trucks so your cost is REALLY only $.20 to do yours. Then you can call al of your buddies and tel them you'll do it for them for a 12 pack!!
What you do is locate the ICP sensor at the front of the drivers side cylinder head. Remove the hardshell connector from the sensor. Now take a resistor and solder about 2 inches of 20 gauge wire to each side of it and either tape up the bare spots or shirnk tube it. Now trim about 1.5 inches of insulation from the ends of the wires you just soldered and seperate 3 or 4 strands from the rest. Trim off all the rest and twist together the 3 strands. Grab the connector you unplugged and point it towards you so you can see the part that plugs into the connector. There are three pins and they will look like two eyes and a mouth. Stick one wire into the mouth and fold it back around to the top of the connector, stick the other wire into the right eye as you're looking at the connector and fold back this wire as well keeping the two wires from touching. Now plug in the connector to the sensor and start the truck. If the Check engine light comes on then the connector is not completely seated. If no check engine light comes on, go drive your truck and feel the difference!!!

The high the resistor the more power right, up to 10k???

Sort of. The resistor makes the PCM think that the pressure in the high pressure oil circuit is too low, so it adds more oil pressure. Since high pressure oil is what fires the injector the added pressure makes the injector squeeze in a little more fuel at a faster rate.

The high the resistor the more power right, up to 10k???
No. Exactly the opposite. The lower the resistor value (5.6K vs. 10k) the more HPO pressure will be added = more power

A few questions if you don't mind......
What is the ICP sensor? Do you feel any ill affect like rough idle? Is the increased fuel consumption noticeable?

ICP= Injection Control Pressure. It is the sensor that monitors the oil pressure in the high pressure oil rail.

There is a noticeable rough idle, especially with the lower resistor value's, but I rather like the idle of the 10k. A little rough and kind of choppy, like a big block Ford should be.

Increased fuel consumption?? My milage is a few clicks better with the 10k turned on.

JMorton, Thanks for the info. Got the 10k resistors today. Gonna try the modification this weekend. If it works I hope you'll give us some guidance on shimming the fuel pressure regulator....

Cool!! You're gonna like it!! I didn't really notice any difference when I shimmed my regulator.

Mixed feelings......

Well I did the 10k mod this weekend and the results were underwelming. I guess I may have a little more power but it's hardly detectable. On the other hand, I installed a homemade intake system that worked out pretty nice . I can actually hear the turbo spool up now. Cool!

If you didn't notice a difference then something isn't hooked up right. Either you didn't get a good connection, it's installed on the wrong wire, or it's installed backwards.

Cookie88, I installed it on the connector on the front, top of the drivers side head. I put one end in the "right eye" and the other in the "mouth" of the connector (not the sensor itself). As far as being installed backwards, I didn't realize that was possible. I'll try switching it at 1st opportunity. Thanks.
