JRod, can the manual trans be made to work with the console or do you need something different? Local wreckin yard has 2 explorers (I have $375 credit with them need to use) But I have the 5sp manual.
Also I beleive the cabs basically are the same 94-00 but can you tell me if you found anything different out. I am also gonna try and find elec window kit.
BTW how much was your setup if ya dont mind me askin?
Hank,
My seats cost $235.00 plus shiping (E-bay). They came from a 2000 Exlporer. The center console was $125.00 (salvage yard) out of a 2001 Explorer and the overhead console was $55.00 (E-bay) from a 1999 Explorer.
I don't know for sure, but I have read where guys have cut out the console to accomodate a shifter and have mounted a shifter boot to finish the installation. I would think it could be done.
johare, did you get the console with the vents and stereo controls on the back? If so, was it much work to get the vents going to the back? I'd put a console in if I could get the vents to work and modify it to accomidate my shifter. Everytime I drive my stepdad's fully loaded 98 Explorer, makes my wish I head leather, nice center console with 6'disc changer, overhead console, sunroof, and the dual visors. Also wouldn't mind having the sideview mirrors with puddle lamps on the bottom, and the keypad on the door. I'm wondering if the lighted mirrors would mount up to my Ranger the same, they sure look the same. Maybe I'll get some cheapo foglights and mount them underneath, aiming straight down, and make them come on with the dome light...
Brian,
My console does have the rear vents and the radio controls in the back. I got all of the hardware to connect the vents but did not connect it up since my cab is so small compared to an Explorer, I saw no need. Plus no one ever rides in the back of the cab. I do not have the 6-CD changer. It looks like you would have to move the passenger air bag switch to another location (I just left mine behind the console )I never have reason to turn it off) and the console insert will snap out to access it. You might also have to cut some holes in the heater vent on the Ranger to re-direct some of the air to the console vents. With a floor shifter coming through the console, you would have problems having enough room for the heater vent to run through the console.
Don't know about the mirrors but I would think they would fit. Most parts ae interchangable between the 95-01's. I also have an Explorer dome light in my cab. Screws right in and not much different except a bit more trim. In 2002 Explorer changed quite abit and many of those parts will not bolt up.
Johare,
You seem to be pretty good at modifying Rangers. I've got a 99 XLT 2 door that's manual everything. Do you know if the door panels from a 99 explorer will fit in my truck. My goal is to get power windows and locks but I don't like where the aftermarket kits place the controls.
patrick_q,
Not sure about the door panels from an Explorer. I think the two door Explorers from 95 - 01 will fit a Ranger but not positive. I doubt if the four door panels will fit. You might try a salvage yard as they seem to know what interchanges pretty well.
It is my understanding that connecting to the VSS allows the temperature guage to compensate for engine heat build up and erroneous readings when the truck is idling or running at very low speeds. At higher speeds engine heat is dispersed and does not effect the sensor. From what I have read, if the VSS is not connected the temperature reading can be off by several degrees especially at lower speeds.
