Ok, I got this E4OD Tranny, and the tailshaft doesn't have any gears to run my speedo off of (Trannys probably out of a 4x4). I have the old tranny, and I can't figure out how to pull the tail shaft out to swap them. Is there an easy way of doing this or do I have to gut the entire tranny to get it out?
The later years did not have a speedometer drive in the transmission. They get the speedo "signal" from the speed sensor in the rearaxle housing.
Hate to say it, but you will have to go in through the front. First the OD section, and the the main transmission section. Unless you are familiar with basic automatic transmission tear down and build up, this could get rough for you.
If you still what to go ahead, at least get a shop manual. You can also get a manual for the E4OD at most automatic transmission parts suppliers.
