Any history buffs out there know what the largest displacement gasoline motor ford made was? And if so, where can I find one??? Vehicles they were installed in, all that good stuff. What kind of power it would make and (laughs) what kind of milage does it get!? Any info would be appreciated. Finally, if anyone has something of such size, how much do you want for it?! I am a crazy man with a crazy idea
I was looking through an owner's manual one time for a 1959 Ford truck, F-500 I believe. I don't remember the displacement exactly, but it was in the 500 c.i. area, and it produced I believe around 250 or so HP and 500 ft/lb of torque. I don't remember the exact numbers, but they were comparable to what the PSD was making at the time.
The biggest motor I'm aware of Ford making is the V-8 that they made for M4 Sherman Tanks. It was a V-8 with over 1000 cubes and aluminum heads (which my grandfather, who worked on them in the Korean War claimed was a source of frequent headgasket problems). Next biggest after that that I am aware of is the 534. Of course if you want to be practical and have a big engine what you would really want is an aftermarket iron or aluminum 460 block from Ford Racing Performance (I think that's what they call themselves now). The aftermarket iron 460 block can go out to 605 CID and the aftermarket aluminum 460 block with the 12" deck height can go out to 800+ CID.
