you do not have to pull the heads,but you do have to take the intake off.when you put the intake back on don't use the front and back gasket thier bad for slipping,put a good bead of rtv sealanton them instead,and double check to make sure nothing dropped in side.I tore an engine down that still had rags in it from the last person to work on it ,tore the bottom end apart
beafor disconeting anything mark all your hoses,and wiers so they can be instaled in the proper places afterbe carefull not to break anything in the process.Then drain your coolent,and disconect the top rad hose some fluid will run out,disconect all vacum lines and anyother lines going to the intake becarfull removing fule line their could be some pressure in the line,use a rag to unscrew it or pull it of witchever.Spray all bolts with a good penatrating oil don't be cheap you don't whant to break any bolts off.Scrape any lose dirt or grime from around the intake spray bolts a couple more times and reamove them,use a screwdriver to pry lose the intake lift up on the back and reamove it you might need help with this part.Reamove your valve covers and losen your rocker arms until you can reamove the pushrods and your lifters should comeout with a littel help from a magenet.reinstall in reavers be sure all your gasket surffaces are clean before putting itback together.If theirs anything I'v forgotten someboby please don't hesatate to critasise.
