anybody ever want dual block heaters?well today i installed a dual heater ***.in a new caseIH tractor and the element size is the same as the one used on our 6.9 and 7.3's!the only mod you have to do is make the cord longer to reach the grill.cost is around $60 bucks.just thought id throw that out there!i have the part # but left it at work.
i have two block heaters on my 7.3. cant get the thing to start without them if it's below freezing.
the 7.3 we just sold has 2 block heaters and an oil pan heater on it.
I've got dual block heaters in my 85 Ford 6.9 and my 87 and 89 Chevy 6.2 trucks. Use the O.E.M. frost-plug heater along with a Katz 1500 watt tank heater. Usally only use the low wattage frost plug heater, but it takes a few hours. Something comes up, and I need the truck fast, I use the tank heater and I'm ready to go in 1/2 to 1 hour. Had a few mornings when I was glad to have the big heater since I plow snow, and have woken up on a few occasions with a surprise on the ground. Usually when it snows it's not very cold, but last week we had some heavy snow and it was -28F in the morning here in Central New York.
how did you tie that tank style into your Ford- did you splice into the lower radiator hose or the block drain - and tie into a heater hose on top with a y connector? Just heard if you don't tie into the right spot it will heat the radiator instead of the block on those- just curious where you have your hoses running.
jdemaris tell me about, where abouts are you in central ny,check out my local.my 92 strats with only 1 block heater, the other morning my power went out and reset my timer,i thought i was screwed,-18 but she cranked twice and fired right off!
