starter engages

i am the proud owner of a 98 ranger 3.0 5spd have a starter problem with key on when i depress clutch pedel the starter engages and starts truck with truck running when i depress cluth pedel to floor the starter will try to engage this is canadian truck with day time running lites any help??? tks

See if your Haynes manual tells you how to remove the ignition switch so you can test it. Sounds like it's shorted out or your crossed with 12 volts somewhere.
