My first vehicle...1999 silver F-150 4.6L V8 Off road pckg. reg cab, short bed.
Likes: sits high, good low end torque, even suspension stance
Dislikes: Besides the little torque you feel from the go, severly underpowered(or is it just because I've ridden in Chevy's all my life ). Plasticy interior, transmission "hunts" for gears too much, also as informed by one of my Ford buddies the 5.4 gets better gas mileage than the 4.6, because the engine doesnt have to work as hard to move the truck.
Being a Chevy guy(Ford falls #2 on my list), besides the engine it was a fairly good truck. Don't even ask about Dodge, until they make something with a decent transmission I'll never set foot in a Dodge lot. I do get ragged on for having a Ford alot, southeastern NC is Chevy country, even the women drive em'. The new F150s sorry but theyre a tragedy, right along with the Chevrolets, the only halfway decent looking truck is the GMC Sierra.
Just a thought, but this is a Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forum. If love Chevy's so much why didn't you buy one? Just messing around with ya. Welcome to FTE. Hope you enjoy it. It's really a great place to learn something new every day about your truck and how to make it the best vehichle it can be. If you ever have any problems just ask around on here and someone will figure it out especially Racerguy he's the bomb.
I'm a Chevy, guy I still like Fords. Just keep it American please, except Dodge. I like older trucks more because they were made to work....not liek todays 4wheel drive cars tha sit high. BTW I couldnt find a 73-87 that anyone wanted to sell....good trucks you gotta admit...bulletproof drivetraisn and a good ol' 350.
I also have a question about gearing on my F150. It has an off-road pckg, and why would Ford equip it with a 3.55 gears, seems like off road would need a more aggresive gear possibly 3.73s(minimum), even better 4.10s??
That doesnt make sense, seems like a 5.4 would have the torque to maybe push the 3.55s, but definenetly not the 4.6, the 4.6 would need the 3.73s becuase of its weak output.
