Question 2001 Ford Escape Problem

I have had my Escape since it was brand new. I have had very minor problems with it. I have one problem with it right now. the light on the dash for the airbag (sometimes it will flicker and at other times it will stay on.) I have taken it to the dealership and they tell me that the sensor is bad. Does anyone know about this kind of problem or have you encounter this with your vehicle. How would I go about changing the sensor? Any help would be appreciated.

You may want to check to see if it is under warranty as safety resistant program. I believe it last longer til like 5 yrs and unlimited miles or somewhat higher mileage. Good luck.

Underneath the front seats there is a wire close to the inside seat rail. Straighten it and follow it to the plastic link toward the back underside of the seat. Disconnect and reconnect the link. This "usually" fixes the problem until it gets pushed again by feet, etc.

The permanent fix would be to replace the connector.

I've come across several people with this problem including my '02 Scape.

Safety restraint systems on Fords (air bags and seat belts) are covered 5 years or 50,000 miles under the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Unhappy 2001 Ford Escape problems airbag light AND engine! Help?

We also had a problem with the airbag light flashing nonstop for no apparent reason. We were told to replace the sensor thing in there, and it did NOT stop the light blinking. The mechanic said it is fixed, but that it can't reset since we can't hook it up to a diagnostic machine. (We are military and live in Naples Italy). THEN, a little over a week ago we began having trouble with our engine too. It sounds like a big old truck when idling, very loud and shaking. We are having trouble getting it to shift gears. We took it in and they say there is problem with the valves in the engine and want to charge us over $1000 to fix it!! Our problem is they are NOT a fold dealer, but the auto shop on base and they are Italian and know nothing about our car. We are scared and need advice, if anybody has any to offer. DIdn't see any recalls that might relate to this problem, but if you have please notify me. We don't trust these people to fix our car correctly, or even to diagnose the problem right, but we have no one to help us.

Unhooking and reconnecting connectors on an airbag system is DANGEROUS!!! Do not attempt this unless you know what you are doing!
