Unhappy 4x4 don't work

I have a standard 4.9L F-150 that I bought cheep because the 4x4 did not work. Confident it could be fixed would anyone know what could be possible problems. When shifted into 4x4 position something is not catching were it should. Help would be appreciated.

first of all, is the front driveshaft spinning?
